About Oldenburg
Catholic German immigrants from the Cincinnati region started moving westward into portions of Indiana and Kentucky in 1817, marking the beginning of the town of Oldenburg's colonization. Over the next few years, the little town grew, and in 1837 it was platted. After arriving in Oldenburg in 1844, Father Francis Joseph Rudolf, a German priest, assisted in the development of the town for religious purposes. Soon after his arrival, he persuaded a number of nuns, including Sister Teresa Hackelmeier, to go to the little town to teach the German immigrants' children. Oldenburg's deep German and Catholic origins persisted, and the little village continued to grow into a beautiful greeting community from that point on. Holidays Under the Spires loves to highlight there deep roots in todays time by opening shops and making such a beautiful area festive for everyone to celebrate the holidays. |
